Visual Fluency

Synecdoche.jpg

The prompt I went with was Synecdoche. Instead of an event my general reference came from the movie Synecdoche New York, where the main character attempts to further pursue his career even when faced against his own mortality. Originally I was going to use characters from the movie but instead I opted to use characters from a video game I recently replayed Modnation Racers. The base blank models actually help with the idea of other passerby towards the center focus. Of the main focus looking at their perfect and ideal world. But in the film the main character gets stuck in a loop of it not being perfect enough and later increases production. This causes his relationships to slowly drift away and take his priority away from him.

In the upper half it showcases the most common things that bring validation to someone. Fame and wealth being the most commonly displayed  in the media. But it could branch out to  materialistic or the perfect career too. This idea of perfection deluding the mind to only please this desire to achieve that.  To say that what we already have isn’t enough. Psychology wise we humans will naturally have this mindset due to us unintentionally making comparisons with others in order to get some fulfillment in their lives. I could even relate it to  our current political situation where  certain people demand more, bringing up the question of  ‘when is enough going to be enough’?

That leads to the challenge of actually portraying this complex feeling, perhaps I could have altered the main guy to make him point or rather facing the statue. Lastly I included the very abrupt text 'desire' to bring the audience more towards the idea what I was aiming for.
